Kuroshitsuji II – Episode 7: Shouta Duel

Summer 2010 Anime: Kuroshitsuji II – Episode 7

殺執事 – KoroShitsuji – Killer Butler

‘Clash of the Shoutas’

Ayu’s Episode Reactions:
This episode provokes a gamut of reactions. Comedy and fanservice mixed in with some macabre and disturbing situation that culminates in a unexpected cliffhanger. Ok, maybe Alois getting stabbed isn’t that unexpected since he did brashly provoked and taunt Ciel in the first place. You don’t wave your sword in your opponent’s face when he’s down and not expect him to wait for an opportune moment to react, do you?! Besides, it shows how very little Alois know of Ciel and clearly points out the distinct difference between the two characters. I’m one of those who also thinks that Alois will still be alive after this. As for Ciel, he’s totally in his element. So it’s not shocking to see the way he goes about achieving his avenging quest. It certainly differs from having one of your eyes poked out for nothing.

What’s more interesting to gauge is who is the real master and servant between Claude and Alois? It appears to me to be the other way round so far. In all the episodes that Alois has appeared on, it is apparent that he is always trying to get Claude’s attention or to please him in some manner. Claude looks to be in control of their relationship. His indifference towards Alois’s pitiable cries for help made the fact even more obvious, unless the anime is trying to mislead the viewers into thinking so.  I suppose it is related to the nature of their contract which isn’t revealed yet. Perhaps next episode will shed some light to that aspect as the preview indicates that we’ll get to see Alois’s back story unfold. The Trancy boy might not be who he claims to be after all but that is to be discussed when Episode 8 comes around.

On to the comedy and fanservice aspects. Well, I find Viscount Druitt’s appearance in the first half a little jarring. No doubt, the producers are trying to inject humour but this time, I must say it didn’t quite blend in with the dark undertones that envelopes the episode in the 2nd half. The foodie fight between Sebby and Claude on the other hand works much better because of the exchanges between them. Just pay attention to what they say and the whole scene takes on a different tone. It shows Claude being more and more invested to get his hands on Ciel despite having Alois.

Wah, so now it’s proven that the triplets and Hannah are other worldly beings, not human at all. The triplets appeared to be Claude’s demonic underlings since their eyes flashed pink when Claude ordered them to attack Sebastian. They remained standing and bloodless even after being speared. *LMAO* That scene totally cracks me up cos it’s just so out there. Hannah couldn’t possibly be human either when Claude *wtf* shove his hand down her throat to retrieve the greenish magical blade. @_@ Gross and macabre, eh. I’m interested to know what Hannah’s role really is and what’s her connection to Alois and Claude. Looking forward to Grell vs Hannah fight next. I’ve no qualm with Grell coming to spoil the party. Of course, there’s one other *ahem* disturbing scene involving Claude which I’ll save my comments for the screencaps. xDDD

  1. Alois cannot die, he’s in the next episode. XD
I found the relationship between Claude and Alois confusing, too. At the beginning of the ‘dance’, Claude had to ask Alois to order him. Also at the end of course, Claude didn’t care about Alois been stabbed. He’s nasty, indeed.
By the way, did you understand the spell (or anything alike) that Alois said before he spewed? (Well, it mustn’t be a spell, since it didn’t work.)

Ya, it’s too soon for Alois to die. No, I haven’t figure out what language is the summon Alois used to call or order Claude. I’m sure it’s something spidery…xDDD.
