Arakawa Under The Bridge OP single release.
Second (?) single release from Yakushimaru Etsuko called ‘Venus to Jesus‘ which is also the title of the intro theme to anime series ‘Arakawa Under The Bridge‘. I had previously enjoyed Etsuko’s other OP contribution ‘Oyasumi Paradox‘ for anime series ‘Natsu no Arashi -Akinai chuu‘. Her follow-up single is surprisingly decent, maintaining the retro-pop sound of ‘Oyasumi Paradox’. I really like ‘Venus to Jesus’, even more so when it is accompanied by the amusing animation visuals of Arakawa’s OP sequence. It isn’t as catchy as ‘Oyasumi Paradox’ but the song exudes that carefree, casual, fun and fluffy feeling. Very enjoyable. Track 2 ‘Mister Mythmaker‘ sounds like a 60s retro number with quite an unusual melody sung in Etsuko’s wispy, almost sleepy-liked vocals. It’s not your usual j-pop fare, that’s for sure. Nevertheless, I still find it aurally intriguing. The 3rd track on the single is titled ‘nekomeshi‘. It’s such an ‘awww’ inducing number. Etsuko made the song sound cute without trying too hard. Seemingly catchy in a quiet way. Can’t help but sing out the ‘nya-nya’ bits. 😀
