New Single Release – Supercell’s Sayonara Memories

Music Post!

The vocaloid famed music group ‘Supercell‘ is out with only their second single to date entitled ‘Sayonara Memories‘ and it’s quite good actually.

CD Title: Sayonara Memories
Artist: supercell
Release Date: 10-Feb-2010

The first thought that hits my mind when I listen to the songs on the single is that Nagi aka Gazelle sounds uncannily like YUI…with a bit of Faye Wong thrown. Not that it’s a bad thing because I love her clear vocals. Is this single any better than ‘Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari’? I’d say yes. The titular track ‘Sayonara Memories‘ is as catchy as their first single if not better and it’s not even tied to any anime. That alone earns it lots of plus points from me. The song itself is a mix of mid and up-tempo beat with quite a *dramafied* melody…that’s how I would described it. On the other hand, track 2 ‘Oshieteageru‘ is a more upbeat rock’n’roll type of song. Nagi certainly sounds like she’s happy and hyper on it. But I have to say, track 3 titled ‘Yakusoku wo Shiyo‘ takes the cake for me. Nagi’s voice particularly shines on this lovely minimalist slow ballad. I love the simpleness of the arrangement that help brings out the meaning and emotion the singer is conveying.

Definitely a recommended listen.

  1. Have listened to just Sayonara Memories so far, and it’s definitely reminiscent of Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari. Even contents of the lyrics are similar. Not sure which one I like better yet. The music video for Sayonara Memories is certainly better.

  2. Better than “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari”? That pretty much makes it a must-listen. I do think that Nagi’s vocals were pretty much made for supercell’s compositions, so needless to say, I’m really looking forward to giving this album a go.
