Here I go with a music spamming, roundup post featuring the recent op/ed ani-singles that were released towards the end of Jan. I know it’s a little late in the coming because I really wanted to give the featured singles a good run through and that took a bit of time. As I mentioned before, my schedule’s rather hectic. On top of that, this is first time I’ve covered so many releases in a single post. But of course, I enjoy picking my way through the songs, some of which I like and some I don’t. It’s pretty much a mix bag of good and mediocre tracks. As usual, I do have a few selected favourites which I love and had been looking forward to. Those who’ve been checking out my previous music blabs can probably guess some of my favoured choices, if not all. 😛
Anyway, here’s part 2 of Ayu’s Jan singles round-up . (^_^)V
Let’s begin with the OP Singles:
CD Title: Renai Circulation
Artist: Hanazawa Kana
Release Date: 27-Jan-2010
Source: cdjapan, yesasia
You can’t feign ignorance and say that ‘Renai Circulation’ isn’t addictive and catchy because heck, it is exactly that. Bakemonogatari’s 4th OP tops even ‘staple stable’ by Saito Chiwa. Besides that, the OP sequence is darn cute. The song is a perfect fit. This made it my one of my favourite OP single released in Jan. In case any one wonders, the cd is part of Bakemonogatari’s DVD Volume 4 ~ Nadeko Snake.

Wow, Chemistry really rocks! They’re a group I normally associated with pop-RnB music but the song especially written for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood as its 4th OP turns out to be the best intro for the series to date. It’s probably the most anthemic theme used. The animation visuals that goes along with the TV cut is my favourite one from FMA which I thought just keeps getting better as the series move forward with the main plot and storyline. The other new song on the single is the b-side track titled ‘Brandnew Season ~Yume no Joushaken~ where Chemistry returns to their pop-RnB root, a smooth mid-tempo pop ballad that’s easy on the ears, contrasting with the titular track. This release is one for the FMA music collection for sure.

CD Title: Meiya Kadenrou
Artist: Minami Kuribayashi
Release Date: 27-Jan-2010
Source: cdjapan, yesasia
Gorgeous art is gorgeous. I absolutely love the OP visuals for Katanagatari. The intro theme ‘Meiya Kadenrou’ by Minami Kuribayashi works better than I thought it would. But it is still the strong visuals that enhance the song and made it worth a listen. The b-side song on the single ‘Hohoemi no Kanata’ is however, my favoured track. It’s a ballad with a traditional melody that’s fitting for a period drama. I particularly love the weeping violin instrumentation. Overall, a strong contender for best new OP although the anime will stretch over the next 11 months or so.

Ookami Kakushi OP
CD Title: Toki no Mukou, Maboroshi no Sora
Release Date: 27-Jan-2010
Source: cdjapan, yesasia
FictionJunction is back with yet another anime series tie-in and their new contribution is the OP theme for ‘Okami Kakushi’ titled ‘Toki no Mukou, Maboroshi no Sora’. The full length version is simply awesome and epic, way better than the TV cut in terms of listening experience. You can sort of detect Kajiura Yuuki’s influence in the composition. This time round, it’s the song that enhance the OP animation which otherwise, is just ordinary. Another fab track from the group is the beautifully, tender ballad ‘Nohara’. I love the vocalization which express the emotions of the song and brings it out. As a single, it is one of my top two picks from Jan. The other single is HalCali’s ‘Endless Night’ which I blab about in the preceding music post. I have to add that ‘Toki no Mukou, Maboroshi no Sora’ definitely will be a strong contender for Best OP song on my list.

Dance in the Vampire Bund OP
I like Vampire Bund’s intro theme ‘Friends’ a lot more after a few listens. Nakano Aiko has quite a deep and slightly husky tone which I thought suit the song really well. Also, the opening visuals have got the MV feel to it. They came off well together if you know what I mean. The B-side song ‘Rosa’ is quite an awesome pop-rock song as well. I love Nakano’s edgy operatic vocals. The song could work great as an ED theme as well. Nice!Vodpod videos no longer available.

Tatakau Shisho ~The Book of Bantorra OP2
I’ve gotten used to Ali Project’s 1st opening for Bantorra but the 2nd OP ‘ Seisai no Ripieno’ sung by Sasaki Sayaka is quite a rousing new theme befitting the anime’s direction. As for the intro visuals, I kinda like the first one somehow. Track 2 ‘Monochrome Dust’ is another pop-rock number that’s quite listenable and could work as a theme song if it’s used. Having said that, songs like these are easily forgettable among the sea of releases because they don’t really stand out as individual tracks. Above average at best.

Inuyasha ~The Final Act~ OP1
Ah…good song but a very average intro visuals. What a pity it doesn’t have a dynamic animation sequence because this is such an energetic, kick ass kind of song. Could have pairrd it better I’d say. But anyhow, I love Do As Infinity’s Kimi Ga Inai Mirai…more as a standalone single. A punchy rock song with strong vocals and a catchy melody…hawt number indeed. Besides the titular track, the single featured 3 awesome side tracks as well. I said awesome because they are really good songs on it which made it such a pleasure to listen to. FuKai Mori (track 2) and Rakuen (track 4) are mid-tempo pop-rock compositions whereas Shinjitsu no Uta is an interesting track which has what sounded like a Chinese double-reed trumpet accompaniment, adding a traditional element to a rousing rock ballad. Nice touch indeed. This is probably my favourite DAI single yet.Vodpod videos no longer available.

Seikon no Qwaser OP
Faylan’s back with another anime related single. She does the OP for Seikon no Qwaser…an oddly named anime series which involved milk and mammary glands…LOL. I’m not sure if her new song can ever top Canaan’s OP ‘Mine as Judgement’ which I think is her best song to date. ‘Errand’ is an upbeat opening track but I just didn’t feel the song or remembered much about it. The melody seems to be all over the place. The intro animation sequence is nothing really special either. It isn’t strange that I ended liking the B-side song ‘scat blue’ over the titular track. Oh well, different taste I guess… (^_^;;Vodpod videos no longer available.

And we’re off to seiyu singing group and idols powered OP Singles. I’m not going to babble on about the next 4 singles because they sound so much like one another there’s nothing much to say…err…squeaky, cutesy songs…mind the pitch… The only thing that differentiates them is the intro visuals. Just pick and choose which ones you like better, I guess.

Baka to Test to Shokanju OP
Aha…Baka to Test is possibly the most *Lulz* inducing anime from the Winter’10 anime season. The OP song ‘Perfect-area complete’ certainly mirrored the anime really well. Even the simple OP sequence is somewhat amusing to see especially with the upbeat cheery song to accompany it.Vodpod videos no longer available.

And now, the ED Singles:
Sora no Woto ED
As much as I didn’t want to say anything K-ON related…can’t get away from that comparison but ya, I like Sora no Woto’s ED. It’s such a cute and annoyingly catchy little ditty that latch on to you. Can’t help and do a little head jig when the chorus comes round…xD. Is a candidate for the most addictively catchy ED song from the winter season. I don’t think there’s any other ED that’s quite as memorable as this one….save maybe for DRRR!!!’s ED but on a different level. DRRR!!! rules the Winter season by the way. 02. Tiny Rainbow
03. Love Sign
04. Mangetsu no Sensibility
I do watch KHR anime on and off but the manga’s better. SuG’s Gr8 Story is the anime 14th ED song. Not a favourite of mine this one. The ED animation isn’t much either… for the most part, it didn’t quite match such a high energy rocking number. I preferred track 2 ‘Milk Tune’ if I were to choose which of the 3 tracks sounds more appealing to my listening palette. The other song is track 3 ‘Ｇ☆Ｅ☆Ｔ☆Ｇ’…noise…lots of it. 01. ｇｒ８ ｓｔｏｒｙ **
02. ｍｉｌｋ ｔｕｎｅ．
And that brings me to end of my belated roundup post. Until the next time…stay tune!
