KOKIA’s Latest Digital Single – single mother/Christmas no Hibiki

Festive Music Post!

Time to bring on a little bit of Christmas cheer on tBP although it might seem somewhat early. Anyway, I’m starting to get into a nice festive mood. Therefore, I’m happy to share a very special single release and that’s the latest digital single from KOKIA which is titled ‘single mother/Christmas no Hibiki‘.

Single Title: single mother/クリスマスの響き
Artist: Kokia
Release Date: 18-Nov-2009
Label: Victor Entertainment
Source: jvcmusic

Kokia’s digital single featured 3 new songs and a cover of another classic english song ‘SMILE’ made famous by the legendary crooner Nat King Cole. The tracks on the single exude a very Christmassy and Wintry mood. ‘single mother‘ is a lovely and meaningful ballad with that Winter kind of feeling. It’s a beautiful and sentimental song. Track 2 ‘Sound of Christmas‘ seems to capture a childhood recollection of Christmas. Kokia’s voice sounds heavenly on this song. Gorgeous melody too. Her cover of ‘Smile‘ is rather decent, sung in that soft, gentle voice of hers. I love the piano arrangement for this version which makes it so nostalgic. Last but not least, there’s track 4 titled ‘Night Dance with the White Dog‘ (Shiroi Inu to Odoru Yoru). With a title like that, you can be sure it’s going to be a cute little ditty. I really enjoy the music arrangement on this track. It has got a fun, catchy and quirky flavour…you know, vaudeville-like. Anyway, enjoy! Woof! (^^)v

02. クリスマスの響き **Christmas no Hibiki

Thought I add the lyrics to ‘SMILE’ just cos I’m in the mood to. (*^_^*)

Song: SMILE
Lyrics by: John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons
Music composed by: Sir Charlie Chaplin

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

  1. Wait… Charlie Chaplin composed one of the tracks? As in that actor from the 1930s who starred in some very good B&W films of the era? This I’ll have to listen to at some point for KOKIA’s vocals and Chaplin’s compositions.

    • Indeed it is one and the same person. Multi-talented Chaplin was a composer and a musician. His wrote scores for some of his own films. He composed ‘Smile’ for a silent movie called ‘Modern Times’…which he also produced. I had fun reading up his biography on the net…hehe.🙂
