Anime OP/ED Singles Nov Roundup – Part 1

Music Post! featuring Needless OP2/ED2 Singles, Kampfer ED Single, Natsu no Arashi! Akinai Chu OP Single, Kobato. OP Single and Tatakau Shisho ~The Book of Bantorra ED Single.

I’ve been neglecting this blog space for quite a bit recently as real life takes its toll on my blogging time. Since the past couple of weeks or so, there has been a slew of OP/ED Singles releases and I decided that we’ll do a roundup post. Well, I’m going to feature the ones that I’ve heard anyway and will probably add more of my usual comments later.  So, what are my favourites of the lot? Easy to tell. They are pretty much in the order I post them.

CD Title: TV Anime Tatakau Shisho The Book of Bantorra ED “Light of Dawn”
Artist: Annabel
Release Date: 6-Nov-2009

Annabel‘s second single is another anime tie-in and this time it’s the outro theme to anime series “Tatakau Shisho The Book of Bantorra.” Her first single is the the lovely ED theme ‘My Heaven’ which she sung for ‘Canaan’. It was and still is one of my favourite ED themes of 2009.   ‘Light of Dawn‘ though is quite different from her previous single. It’s much more upbeat and fast pace. It has a rather catchy hook and I like it at first listen.  I thought it fitted rather well as Bantorra’s outro theme. The b-side song on the CD is called ‘Torus‘, a rather pleasant, soothing and soft number. Annabel’s voice is really lovely here. Nice and gentle number to wind down to.  A recommended listen indeed and yeah, I definitely like this more than ALI Project’s OP single for Bantorra. Now, why isn’t that a surprise? 😛

CD Title: Kobato Intro Theme “Magic Number
Artist: Maaya Sakamoto
Date Release: 11-Nov-2009

Maaya Sakamoto is back with another CLAMP anime contribution, performing the intro theme to the anime series “Kobato” titled “Magic Number“. This is such a bright cheery little song which reflects the bubbly air head personality of the protagonist of the anime that the title track is used for. I like how Maaya projects that liveliness in her singing. It’s such a suitable theme for Kobato and certainly one of the catchiest theme tune of 2009.  The CD single also includes three other songs, one is a new song called ‘Private Sky‘ and the other two tracks are live versions of her older songs called ‘Kazamidori’ and ‘Pocket wo kara ni shite’. Private Sky is an upbeat track with a pop-rock arrangement which I quite like as well but it can’t beat  Magic Number’s infectious melody.  The single is worth a listen even if you don’t watch Kobato.  (^_^)

Natsu no Arashi Akinai Chu OP Clip – Oyasumi Paradox

CD Title: Oyasumi Paradox / Jenny Ha Gokigen Naname
Artist: Yakushimaru Etsuko
Date: 21-Oct-2009

Etsuko Yakushimaru‘s debut double A-side single features the intro theme to the anime series “Natsu no Arashi! Akinai Chu” titled “Oyasumi Paradox“.  I got hook with this song when it premiered as Natsu no Arashi’s Season 2 intro theme. I like the ‘arty’ visuals accompanying the song as well and preferred it over Season 1’s theme.  The song’s arrangement is so darn catchy and playful, perfect for the comedy themed anime. The full song is even better to listen to.  I find the A-side track ‘Jenny wa Gokigen Naname‘ rather interesting as the music arrangement reminded me of clock work ticking away, kinda cute.  I’d say this a pretty good debut for Etsuko. Another recommended listen.

CD Title: TV Animation Kampfer Outro Theme “One Way Ryo Omoi
Artist: Natsuru Seno (Marina Inoue), Kaede Sakura (Megumi Nakajima)
Release Date: 11-Nov-2009

Seiyuu Marina Inoue and Megumi Nakajima did the honors of contributing not just their voices to TV anime series “Kampfer” but also sings the OP theme “One Way Ryo Omoi“.  This was listenable only because Megumi Nakajima and Marina Inoue did a good job singing the song but still ‘One Way Ryou Omoi’ sounds a tad campy and typical of an anime pop sound. Will I remember it after the series is over? I doubt it.  It seems like I prefer track 2 ‘Tatakae Moralism‘ more than the titular track. It’s less cartoony somehow.  But Kampfer fans might still want to check this single out.

NEEDLESS OP Clip – Scarlet Bomb:

CD Title: Needless New Intro Theme “Scarlet Bomb!
Artist: Misato Aki
Release Date: 21-Oct-2009

New single release from Aki Misato features the second intro theme to the anime series “Needless” and it’s called “Scarlet Bomb!“.  Like its predecessor, the titular track is an upbeat rock number. To be honest, Grandrodeo’s Modern Strange Cowboy is still the better OP theme but that’s not saying that ‘Scarlet Bomb’ is bad. On the contrary, it’s a pretty cool song that match up well with the new OP visuals much like OP1.  Continuing the fast paced upbeat trend is track 2 ‘Love Wind‘.  It’s less rock but more electro-pop in its arrangement. Nonetheless, the song is still a high energy song which suits Aki Misato’s voice just fine.

CD Title: Wanted ! For The Love
Release Date: 11-Nov-2009

And this is the least likable of the OP/ED singles pile.  Anyway, “Wanted! For the Love” is  the second single release from the Needless Girls+ which of course features TV anime “Needless” second ED theme.  I like it less than the first outro theme ‘Agressive Zone‘ which I thought was quite hilarious because of its *wtf* ED visuals. But so, this is just *meh*.  I won’t say much more than that.
