Umineko no Naku Koro ni OP Single – Henyoku no Tori

Music Post!

A preview of Shikata Akiko’s OP Single release for anime series ‘Umineko no Naku Koro ni.’

CD Title: TV Anime Umineko no Naku Koro ni Intro Theme “Henyoku no Tori
Artist: Shikata Akiko
Release Date: 19-Aug-2009

I think this is the only anime theme from Summer that I can recall which possessed a classical operatic flavour with a stirring choral backing. The full song of Umineko’s intro theme ‘Henyoku no Tori‘ (One Winged Bird) sounds far more superb than the anime’s tv-cut version. You get to experience the fabulous full blown orchestral arrangement that the tv-cut fails to give. Shikata Akiko‘s singing is quite interesting in that it reminds me of a well known Tibetan singer with that kind of ethnic oriental vocal styling. I also love the weepy violin that weaves in and out of the song. It definitely lends the song a melancholy feel. Indeed I’m impress with the track much more so than the anime.  The anime simply isn’t as epic as its theme tune. 😛

The b-side song ‘VII‘ has a very similar feel to Kanon Wakeshima’s ED themes for the Vampire Knight series. In fact, I thought Kanon sounded very much like Shikata…their voices are very similar. Like Kanon’s Still Doll and Suna no Oshiro, VII gives out a neo-classical gothic vibe. It would not be out of place as a Vampire Knight theme.  Might I add that both VK and Umineko are produced by Studio Deen and both of which have been less than stellar adaptations…not to mention the other Deen series with the 07 prefix…sigh. At least, Umineko did come out with a pretty good intro theme that I’m quite happy with. 🙂

  1. This whole single is so awesome~ Lol I agree. This is the time where the song just outshines the anime itself 😛

VII is love <3. It reminded me of Kanon Wakeshima as well but crazier.
