Impressions:
In this episode, Teito is worried about Mikage. He feels guilty about being well treated by the nice folks at the Church when Mikage might be facing terrible trouble. So he tries to leave the Church but was stopped by Frau the first time. Teito then had his first taste of eyefish, a weird delicacy native to the 7th District. He then met an old man whose wife had passed away. He asked Teito what’s bothering him and Teito relates his troubles to him. The old guy then tells Teito that someone may be able to grant him his wishes and that if he wants his wishes to come true, he needs to be back at the place where they are when the midnight bell tolls. This only makes him feels burden with guilt and he tries to leave the church again only to be stopped by Frau. Frau thinks that he’s in no condition to do anything but Teito disagrees and attack Frau with his Zaiphon. Unfortunately, he failed to lend a single scratch on Frau who eventually puts him out with a punch. The midnight bell tolls and a desperate Teito is seen waiting for the old man. Meanwhile back in Barsburg, Ayanami faced questioning over his handling of Teito’s escape. He isn’t bothered with the Military brass and proceeds to threaten harm to Mikage’s family if he did not cooperate.

Studio Deen seems to put their own spin on the adaptation with this episode. There were anime original scenes inserted like the fight with Frau at the connecting bridge when Teito tries to force his way out of the church. In the manga, Teito did not attempt to leave the church. It seems that the anime is putting more emphasis on Teito’s friendship with Mikage with the constant worrying and guilty conscience. The anime cut out Teito’s flashback to his past during the scene with the old man and instead change it to him talking about not being able to help Mikage. It feels like they drag out the scene with the old guy by changing the manga sequence of events.  Another difference is with Teito revealing his name during the fight with Frau. In the manga, he told the nuns his name during the meal scene.  There were lots of focus on the sisters in the anime too.  Even the dialogue were different for the scenes where Ayanami and his team faced questioning by the military brass. I suspect that Studio Deen might be going on a different path from the manga judging from the numerous changes in this episode. The only thing they keep constant with the manga is the humour. So far, I’m not too bothered with the anime-only inclusions but I’m curious about how the story will develop from here with those changes.

Frau thinks Teito should be a good brat and  eat some food to grow bigger before thinking of taking a stroll outside the church. Aww, he makes such a pretty little girl with the flower on his hair…lol.

Whaaaa, what the heck is that? I’m not eating them eyeballs. Teito thinks the church folks are aliens for having such a weird menu. Eyefish stew anyone? Lol at Frau making fun of Teito’s stature.

Aya-tan and his merry troupe got a grilling from the old folks for letting Teito escaped. I love his pretty eyes though. He looks menacing cool with his purple peepers.

Eh?!? What’s with the Christmas tree in my room? The sisters are making Teito confused with their interior deco skills.

Teito reminisce on the good old days when he and Mikage first became buddies.

Teito attempts to go out for a midnight stroll again. Frau thinks he should go back to sleep instead but no can do. The boy wants out and decides to fight for it.  Both Castor and Lab are glad for some free evening entertainment. They even brought refreshments along.

Not much of a match. Frau made short work of Teito. Castor and Lab are dismayed at such an appalling mismatch of skills.

Lights out for Teito.

Which will it be, your pretty little sister or Teito? Aya-tan drives home the threat with his smexy glowing eyes.

Lol @ Frau going ‘meow, meow’…he sounds so funny.  But an ill wind is in the air as the midnight bells toll and trouble beckons Teito along.

Next Episode Preview:

Looks like we’ll get to see pretty mermaid Razette and the first appearance of the Ghost and possibly the Kor.
