Phantom OP Single – KOKIA’s Karma

Music Post!

KOKIA‘s stunning A+ OP Single release for TV anime Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~

Karma literally send chills down my spine. The song is aurally stunning to listen to and is on a whole different level to any Spring 2009 OP/ED that’s released thus far. I don’t expect it to be matched in anyway by upcoming releases. The gothic cum new-aged inspired music, melody and vocal layering is simply haunting and arresting at the same time. On top of that, the music arrangement is beautifully passionate and dramatic, conveying a sense of longing and yearning. Let’s not forget the second track which is equally brilliant although much less dramatic. Insonnia is a very lovely lullaby-ish track with it’s light *heavenly* music arrangement and ethereal vocals. It sounds like music for a requiem as well plus the song is sung entirely in Italian. A wonderful and peaceful track that’s certainly worth listening to time and again. Here are the first few verses:

Perche sono qui?
Dove voglio andare?
La risposta no cé

In my opinion, Karma is Spring 2009’s best opening song and single. Not only is it the best OP song, it has the best intro animation visuals befitting the thriller series’ concept through and through. It’s a shame not many people will like this OP song though but really, this is 100x better than Sakurakou K-ON-Bu generic anime pop…muahaha.  Unlike the other stuff, Karma has artistry written all over it.  I don’t know how many times have I played the song already but it always sound so chillingly awesome.  Highly recommended for your anime music collection. 😉

  1. the song is amazing and so cautivating, since the first time i heard it i was like WTF that’s so awesome, and not only the OP, the soundtrack of Requiem for the Phantom is so cool, i love the song played my Irino Miyu, Haitoku no Gajou, both versions, instrumental and sing by Irino are pretty awesome too

  2. I must say, the vocals ARE ethereal and haunting. I saw the anime from my favourite sub group, and now the song has deeply affected me–I cannot stop listening to it! It is an amazing piece of work.

    • Yay! I’m glad someone other than me love Phantom’s excellent OP song. KOKIA did a wonderful job with ‘Karma’. I hope more viewers/listeners will get to like it too. 😀
