Overview
CLAMP is again releasing a two parter OAD for the Tsubasa series, much like they did with their other well known franchise ‘xxxHOLIC’. The first part of Tsubasa Shunraiki was released on 17-Mar-2009 while the second part is due to be released on 15-May-2009. This time round, the OAD Special featured the Nihon Arc where Syaoran and the entire gang gets transported to Nihon after the collapse of the Celes dimension. It also covers the crossover with xxxHolic. Production I.G once again helms the production work and Kajiura Yuki returned as the main composer for the OAD.

The animation is rather crisp and fluid which is to be expected since this is a Special. Like xxxHOLIC, I’m just happy to see all my favourite characters back in action particularly Fay and white Mokona. The first half of part one was quite sad especially seeing what our heroes had to sacrifice in order to save one another. Fay loosing the only magic he has left was particularly touching. He did it so that Kurogane could get a new arm after he sacrificed his own to save Fay. The second half is where most of the action scenes are with Syaoran battling Seishirou to retrieve the feather he has taken in a previous dimension they had met in. Watanuki also made his appearance in the last half as part of the xxxHOLIC connection. In the dream world, Sakura meets Watanuki and learns that his name actually refers to her birthdate and Syaoran’s. The episode ends with a cliffhanger where Watanuki, Syaoran and Sakura came face to face with the cloned Syaoran in the dream world. It’s another month before the next part comes out. Looking forward to that.

Tsubasa Shunraiki OP Clip

What of the OP and ED? The intro theme is a song called ‘Sonic Boom’ which is sung by Maaya Sakamoto whereas the outro song is titled ‘Kioku no Mori’ which is performed by FictionJunction YUUKA. I prefer the lovely OP animation sequence over the rather plain ED sequence. The OP song is nicer as well. The full track can be found on Maaya’s album ‘Kazeyomi’ which was released earlier this year.

  1. One of the saddest and most serious episodes of TRC yet, the scene with Faye crying caught me completely off-guard.:\

    Baaaaaw, Faaaaaye, baaaw.

Also, personally i think the new OP and ED are somewhat lacking compared to that of Tokyo Revelations’, but Maaya’s songs are still awesome. ;D
