EPISODE 17 – その執事、奉納 His Butler, Dedicates
New images from the opening sequence!
OOOP! The images links aren’t working anymore.
They change the animation sequence for the opening this week. The theme is unchanged though. I thought some of the intro scenes are kind of spoilerish. I’m surprised that Lau isn’t featured in the new sequence. Everyone else is in there…well…the
four Phantomhive servants, the Undertaker, male and female Angela plus Grell. I wonder if the writers intend to ‘off’ Lau sometime soon. If so, that’s too bad cos I quite enjoy Lau’s mysterious presence…especially as he always pretend not to know anything when it is actually the opposite.
Anyway, this episode sees the return of Angela who’s masquerading as Ash, the Queen’s butler. At least, that’s what it seems or else how did Pluto recognized Ash? Those of us who thought she wasn’t human is proven right. Apparently she’s some kind of angel (or ayakashi with wings…lol). She seems to be acting on her own and interfering in the work of the Death Gods. Yet to be revealed why she’s insistent on targeting Ciel. Maybe it’s to do with stopping Ciel on his vengeful quest. Angela seems to be the one who caused the death of Ciel’s parents too, most likely because of Ciel’s dad involvement with the underworld. Whatever, Sebastian will have his work cut out for him if he’s confronting an angelic being. But I must say it’ll be an interesting battle to see who will win Ciel’s soul. Poor Ciel! Not fun to be stuck in a tug-of-war, innit!
About Grell, I find his character a tad annoying in this episode. He’s like a distraction that’s trying to be amusing. It works sometimes but at other times, fail. The highlight of this episode for me is Sebastian getting to show more of his demonic capabilities and by this, I mean his seduction skills. I think it’s the first time that the anime is showing this side of him. I totally laugh when they show the scene of him and the *nun*. I was thinking out loud, ‘did they really… ?’ And Ciel going ‘can he really do that?’ Totally cracks me up. Oh so devious but of course, everything else is implied…lol. 😛

What’s the Queen’s butler doing in my house and having tea with my servant? Well, he’s here to tell you that some doomsday book is stolen and being used by a dangerous religious cult that’s taken over a former house of worship up at the country side. The Queen wants you, little Earl, to go and investigate. This case is right up your alley too especially when innocent folks are suspected to be brainwashed.
Good doggy, good. You recognized your mistress don’t you, Pluto. Sebby’s suspicious. It’s all about the scent and he knows the air smells a little foul. Good thing Ash left or else Ciel couldn’t enjoy his delicious cake. 😛
Since there’re lots of coffin delivery to the cultish place, Sebby and Ciel pays the Undertaker a visit…only to run into tadaaa….shinigami in red, Grell Sutcliffe. Grell’s slacking on the job again. Our red head shinigami was sent by Will (his bespectacled super) to investigate the case of the missing ‘cinematic record’. Someone has stolen the ‘film of past, present and future’ from their Library which is stored in the form of a book. Sebastian quips that sounds like the doomsday book Ash was talking about. Dear me, a salted Undertaker does not make for an appetizing sight, eh?! No more funny jokes required says the salty Undertaker. Time for to deliver another coffin…
The ruse to sneak in didn’t quite work out after all cos like the robed guy spotted the gang and thought they’re new converts. How nice…they got in easy that way and even met some weird smiley folk along the way.
The gang find themselves in a cavernous worship hall and Ciel spotted the same sign above the roof that was branded on to his body. He wonders why there is such a sign. Grell decides to befriend some kids…not. The kids didn’t think very much of him cos they called him dirty…lol. And yes, a cute and pretty girl in a habit appears.
Yare, yare…Sebastian turns on his demonic seductive charm to wheedle out some information from the pretty little ‘sister’. Apparently he went quite a distance to get what he needs (lol)…which irks a jealous Grell who no doubt wishes Sebby does the hanky panky with him…lol. Ciel wonders if Sebby’s ‘method’ is really right…and why is he even listening in? Tsk tsk!. Rofl xD Best hilarious scene of the episode albeit a little random in its occurrence. And what did they get out of the pretty *sister*? That the priest used little boys for his purification purposes all in the name of the Doomsday book…hehe. Looks like a job for Ciel.
Aw…Ciel getting strip and smothered by two pervy ‘nuns’..lol and Sebby going all sparkly, saving him from the blushes. Our little Earl is getting scrub clean for his purification ceremony with the shadowy priest. Ciel is quite surprise that Sebastian seems to be going out of his way to make sure that nothing untoward harms him. Me thinks he probably knows that he’s up against a very strong opponent who’s after Ciel’s life.
You know something’s wrong when creepy priest guy touches you and says things from your childhood that nobody’s supposed to know but you and then he tries to strangle the life out of you. Cue, Sebby flies in and spears the priest with a piece of broken glass. Just when Ciel thought he is safe…all is not as it seems. Sebby attacks the robed guy but all he sees is pieces of the robe and white feathers…and he knew all along, it’s maid Angela. She sprouted a pair of angelic wings and she has the real ‘doomsday book.’
Angela kidnaps Ciel and use the cinematic record to bind Sebastian. Grell behave in his annoying manner with the tiny scissors…gosh, cut the thing already…jeesh! A portal opens up! Angela disappears with Ciel into the portal. A freed Sebastian along with Grell follows suit.
Next episode preview:
Sebastian vs Angela…the battle for Ciel’s soul…lol. Who will win?! Be sure to stay tune to next episode.
I still think Ciel’s dad has an uncanny resemblance to Sebastian. Why is it we never get to see his face (it’s always shaded or eyeless or faceless)?
