I’m enjoying Kuroshitsuji’s filler episodes so far as they are rather entertaining for the most part. This episode is sort of a continuation from the previous Maid Angela/Demon dog arc. I am saying this because Pluto, that cute demon/man-dog/puppy is still around. I can understand why they (the studio) want to hold on to this filler plot because they’re really catching up to the manga’s latest volume if they chose to animate the ‘Indian’ arc past volume 5.
Okay, back to the episode. Ciel and Sebastian pays a visit to the Ice Fair in London. It’s held once in every
donkey 80 years :-p. While there, they ran into Inspector Aberlene from the Yard and inadvertently get caught up in the mystery of the missing blue diamond famously known as ‘The Shard of Hope’. As Ciel and Sebastian investigate the missing blue Hope diamond mystery, Elizabeth and her maid Paula are having their own little adventure at the fair. This mostly involves Elizabeth trying earnestly to look for a suitable gift for Ciel’s birthday. She feels guilty of destroying Ciel’s heirloom ring and wants to make sure she made up for that stupid incident. Then there’s this spooky toy man character that keeps shadowing Elizabeth. Ah yes, something’s weird with Mr. Toy Soldier there. See, he is involved in the missing diamond mystery.
The funniest moments was when Ciel broke out in spots after seeing Viscount Druitt again (recalling that he had a uncomfortable near ‘yaoi’ moment with him previously…haha) and when Sebastian twirl and threw Ciel up in the air with a devilish smirk and Ciel going arrrgggghh!!! I kept thinking, ‘Sebastian…that was really mean of you.’ Lol, Sebby’s sarcastic remark later on is one of the best lines he ever spewed yet…that totally had me laughing. Despite the amusing elements, the show still maintains it’s undercurrent tones of darkness and spookiness throughout the episode as evident with the appearance of the mysterious toy man/puppet master character hovering in the background. The arc continues through to the next episode (11) as gasp! Lizzie goes missing.
Poor Inspector dude being constantly mock by our little brat who has no love for the Scotland Yard’s methods. Aberlene though is a nice guy who seems intrigue with Ciel to let him in on the case of the stolen blue diamond. Lau’s tea house is pretty impressive especially with his lovely service attendants….hehe. Funny how he always pops up pretending like he’s in the know when he’s really clueless…which annoys Ciel much.
Was Sebastian just a little jealous of Inspector Aberlene when he somehow easily made the Undertaker laugh? So the Funtom company enters the ice carving competition in order to recover the Hope diamond. What’s more interesting is Ciel’s face when he saw who was among the judges…gasp! horrors!…it’s Viscount Druitt…Ciel can’t forget the near kissu moment he has with the sly but charming Viscount.
And the competition begins. The Yard’s patriotic entry fail. Lau’s entry is deemed too voluptuously explicit. Sebastian’s piece of handy work ‘Noah’s Ark’ wowed the judges…but the baddies won’t let Funtom get away with the stolen diamond.
