This weekend is going to be another hot vampy weekend but I’m not complaining. Vampire Knight Guilty is heading towards its season finale. Only 2 more episodes to go. I am sure most viewers following the series would have read the numerous episode reviews and summaries elsewhere. But here I am, intent on playing catch up with the previous two episodes with my wall of screenshots and random bits of impressions along the way. I’ll be posting this in two parts with the precious little time that I can hog at my brother’s computer cos I’m still on my long holiday break.
**VK Manga news alert: The new VK manga chapter 46 is on the way too. Just a little hint about the latest chapter…choices have been made and it’s fill with parting sorrow ;_;
**Edit (29-12-2008): Episode 11 screencaps and impression is up on page 2 of this post. Cheers!
First up is Episode 10: 戦いの序曲 ～プレリュード～
Lots of cool vampire powers on show in this episode and Kaien Cross is awesome too. Rido’s finally awake and everyone feels the bad vibe in the air. Zero is undergoing some kind of transformation too. Yuuki is still trying to play guardian. So it seems Kaname’s chess pieces are now in place , waiting for Rido to make his move. And he reveals Zero as the knight.
Ha! Yuuki dislike the sunlight now. She’ll never walk in the full sunshine again as she’s no longer human. Tut! Anyways, here we see that Yuuki is experiencing her strong vampire sense. She can smell danger coming from other vampires.
Kaien and Yagari shepherds the entire day class to a safe zone. Isn’t Kaien cool with his hair loose? He looks so B.A. It’s sad that his beloved Academy is becoming a battleground. That is surely not what he had in mind when he sets-up the Academy. Poor guy. Yori-chan is ever the best friend, worrying about Yuuki when she has no clue what really happens to her.
Rido is fast regaining his physical body and Ichiru waits in anticipation in order to fulfill his one true goal. Meanwhile, a disgusted Takuma carries his beloved friend Shiki away from room because Rido’s done with using him.
Some Day Class students just never learn and their selfish disregard for safety causes trouble for Kaien and Yagari as they try to make sure no harm comes to the students. Yuuki is disturbed by the unease in the atmosphere and decides to do something about it while a freaking Aidou chases after her. The Night Class students are on the watch and prepare to defend the school.
I love this sequence of events as it shows the Night Class students’ individual abilities while they fought against the rogue vampires from the Council and the Association. It’s the first time we have seen Ruka’s vampire powers and it’s amazing. But what’s more amazing is Kaien Cross, ex-super vampire hunter showing us what he’s capable of. I so love that scene where he jumps in and slice Rido’s goons to sand. Even Akatsuki and the others acknowledged his abilities. Awesome.
Yuuki got back into her school uniform and decides to protect her friends much to Aidou’s horror. Aidou thinks it is very unbecoming of a pureblood princess to behave that way. But Yuuki-sama wants to have her own way. Yori-chan though decides to sneak away from safe zone and find Yuuki because she’s concerned for her super best friend who has been hiding secrets from her. But wait, isn’t it dangerous thing to wander about like that? Indeed it is cos Yori-chan ran right into one of Rido’s vampire dogs. Tsk! That’s just asking for trouble, Yori-chan. Meanwhile, Zero who is lock-up in a basement dungeon, is feeling the agony of his own internal transformation and like Yuuki, is sensing Rido’s evil vibe in the air as Rido is almost done regaining his body back.
Waaa…Aidou to the rescue. Yori-chan is saved. Yuuki’s Artemis fail her totally and she’s stunned by her weapon’s malfunction…hehe. But Aidou’s icy powers saved the day. Kaname told Aidou to send Yuuki back to her room. No trying to be a heroine for now.
Kaname must really trust Aidou to let him use his vampire magic to put Yuuki to sleep. That was an interesting change that’s veered from the manga completely. Zero is struggling with his conflicting emotions for Yuuki. I laughed at Kaien’s moeness in this sequence…I mean, he went from being B.A to being so doe-eye moe in the scene with Yagari. Totally hilarious. Wow, the rookie hunter from the Association should know his place…it’s a bad move to attack Yagari-sensei like that. Yagari looked so cool avoiding the rookie’s blows and instead, taught the rookie guy a good lesson.
Yuuki dreamt of Shizuka and was woken up by Kaname who told her that she must have felt something because the room she is in was formally occupied by Shizuka. Yuuki appears to be sadden by her dream and Shizuka’s tragic past. Kaname told Yuuki that when the time comes, he’ll leave the place with her. Yuuki though is concern for everyone else in the school and wants to stay and help them. But Kaname told her she can no longer live as a human and does not wish to be separated from her again. Instead, told her to rest and wait for him to come get her while he leaves because there’s something he wishes to do. In the meantime, Takuma apologized to Shiki for the thiings that’s been happening to him. In his heart and mind, Takuma realized that Kaname has always been his best friend from childhood eventhough he’s the ancestor of the Kuran clan. So he too decided on his own path. I can’t help but feel for Takuma. He is really in a difficult spot of having to serve his gramps and then still remain loyal to Kaname. It’s cute to see his childhood flashback with Kaname.
Well now we know what is it that Kaname wishes to do after he leaves Yuuki’s side. He went to see Zero, revealing his plans to destroy Rido and how he has used Zero as a means to do so. Zero was the Knight that Kaname has groomed for the past four years to carry out his plan to free him from Rido’s bind and to protect Yuuki. Of course, it pisses Zero even more. What makes him think he’ll do his bidding, Zero asked? Kaname replied that it’s because Zero will never betray Yuuki. Kaname reveals that he will take Yuuki away from the Academy and for as long as Rido remained alive, he will come after Yuuki. He then leaves Zero to ponder what he has just said. I always thought Kaname’s treatment of Zero in this part of the story (be it the manga version or anime) was harsh and reflects the true nature of his relationship with Zero. Zero absolutely meant nothing to Kaname but because of Yuuki, he has stayed his hand and not harmed Zero. Yuuki doesn’t realized this at this point. Her bond and Kuran pureblood ties to Kaname will prevent her from acting and seeing things differently. Zero on the other hand, after hearing Kaname’s revelations, will always be tainted by the arrogance of the purebloods who treats people like him as tools to use for their own selfish means.
